Volunteer at Kirkland Museum

Work surrounded by great art, great design and great people.

Visitor Services/Museum Support:  Kirkland Museum operates with a small staff, so volunteers have the opportunity to wear many hats in assisting in museum operations.  Visitor services/museum support volunteers enjoy a variety of responsibilities including greeting visitors, accepting admissions, gift shop sales, answering phones, data entry, preparing mailings, and keeping public spaces and break areas attractive and tidy. Volunteers commit to four hour shifts, weekly or biweekly. We are in immediate need of Visitor Services volunteers on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

New! Membership Services Support: The membership services support volunteer will assist the membership coordinator with research and data entry projects, scanning files, event planning and staffing, stuffing and labeling envelopes, and correcting and maintaining the integrity of the database. In addition, this position will provide general museum support by answering phones, welcoming visitors and keeping common areas tidy. We are currently recruiting for this position.

Special Events:  Volunteers are needed for a few hours, approximately quarterly, for preparation, hosting and clean-up for member and public events at the museum and off-site venues. Help is always needed for pouring drinks, filling food trays, greeting visitors, and assisting staff to set up tables and wash dishes.

Interns: Kirkland Museum welcomes inquiries about internships in collections, art research, museum or nonprofit administration, marketing, membership services, or volunteer services. Please contact the manager of volunteer services to discuss designing a program that meets your needs.

Docent training for tour guides and gallery attendants is a ten week course offered periodically. Training covers topics in Colorado art history, American art pottery and industrial design. Current Kirkland Museum volunteers may register first for docent training.

All applicants must complete an interview, criminal background check and credit check.

All volunteers receive discounts in the museum store and opportunities for further training and advancement. Please speak to the manager of volunteer services for more details about these positions.
